We just recently received notification about the death of John Mathew Holt, a member of the West Virginia Society Sons of the Revolution.
The officers and members of the Society of Sons of the Revolution in the State of West Virginia extend their belated but most sincere condolences to the family and friends of John Mathew Holt who passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018. John Mathew Holt was a member of the Society of Sons of the Revolution in the State of West Virginia.
The following is his obituary.
John Mathew Holt, 82, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018, in Davidson, North Carolina. He was born on November 7, 1936, in Weston, West Virginia, to Mathew and Mary King Holt. John married Elissa Hoover Holt, on May 24, 1957, in Weston, West Virginia.
John was a 20 year Marine Corps veteran and the former Superintendent at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, W.Va.
John was survived by his wife, Elissa, of Davidson, North Carolina; his daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Scott Thorson of Davidson, North Carolina; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Allman Holt, of Poway California. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ashley Bakas, Alexandra Holt, and Gregory Holt, all of Poway, California, Parker Thorson of Denver Colorado, and Sierra Thorson, of Davidson, North Carolina.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Mathew and Mary Holt, and his son, John Mathew Holt II.
John will be cremated. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
The family requests memorial donations be made in his name to the Marine Corps Military Academy at 320 Iwo Jima Blvd., Harlingen, TX 78550.
