Death of Richard Colin Kelly

Richard Colin Kelly was a member of the Society of Sons of the Revolution in the State of West Virginia.

Dr. Richard Colin Kelly, DDS age 75, of Marietta, GA passed away March 4, 2018.

Born July 11, 1942 in Elkins, WV, Dr. Kelly graduated from Ekins High School in 1960. He received his B.S. degree in Secondary Education from West Virginia University and obtained his DDS from West Virginia University in 1969. After dental school Dr. Kelly served as a Captain in the Dental Core of the United States Army (stationed at Fort Devens, MA) where he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. He operated his dental practice in Fairmont, WV for 35 years and retired in 2006 and was part time Assistant Professor at the WVU School of Dentistry. Survivors include: his Wife of 46 years, Suzanne Kelly; daughter Allison S. Kelly of Aiken, SC; son Colin K. Kelly of Atlanta, GA and daughter-in law Kelly B. Kelly; grandchildren Regan Kaye, Bennett Colin and Graham Henry Kelly of Atlanta; stepsisters Lynn Winn of Stuart, FL; Pat Brophy of Fairfax, VA; George Scott of Elkins, WV; Mike Scott of Columbia Falls, Montana. He is preceded in death by his parents Woodrow W. and Bessie Flanagan Kelly and stepmother Virginia Scott Kelly.

Dr. Kelly was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity, the WV Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution, and was a longstanding member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Union Lodge #4 and Scottish Rite bodies of Morgantown, WV.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, fishing, turkey hunting, and trap shooting and was a lifelong fan of West Virginia University sports. In retirement he loved supporting his grandchildren’s sports teams and performances.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 6th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Macland Presbyterian Church 3615 Macland Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127 with Rev. David Jones officiating. There will be an additional service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 10th in the Chapel of Lohr Barb Funeral Home in Elkins, West Virginia by Rev. Dr. Peter Vial of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church .
