The first “Frontier” is the Ohio River in the late 1700’s when Martin and Lewis Wetzel were fighting the British and Indians near Wheeling, W.V. The final “Frontier” is when he retired from the Army in Frankfurt, Germany as V US Corps Comdr in 1986.

Lt. Gen. Robert L. “Sam” Wetzel USA (Ret) career spanned 34 years, including active service in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Lt. Gen Sam Wetzel made special mention of the soldiers he commanded when he stated the “Korean War and Vietnam Wars left many scars to the old Infantry soldier. But I am proud of my soldiers, particularly Cpl. Michael Crescenz, Phila. PA., Medal of Honor winner, KIA Nov. 20, 1968. Internet tells his story! Also, Lt. Kevin Burke, KIA 20 Nov, DSC from Iowa.”
